July 5, 2019 | News

Classic American cars from across the country are firing up their engines as the South West’s largest American car show returns for the sixth year running.

Mustangs, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, Pontiacs, Buicks, Jeeps and a host of other American vehicles will be on display at Cofton Holidays from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th July 2019. The weekend will be jam-packed with competitions, V8s, a mega-car cruise, music, food, fun and entertainment.

This annual celebration of iconic American cars and vehicles is set to kick off on Friday 5th July with a party in the marquee. Vocal harmony trio the Victory Vixens will be singing popular tunes with a vintage twist. Cofton’s entertainment team will also be hosting a fun game show that all the family can get involved in. In the evening, guests will be encouraged to put on their finest fifties outfit with a £25 voucher up for grabs for the best dressed.

On Saturday, a cavalcade of over 100 classic American and Canadian cars will set off from Cofton at 11am, cruising through Dawlish to The Green at Dawlish Warren, where members of the public can soak up the sights and sounds of America’s mighty muscle cars completely free.

From 2pm, there’ll be food stalls and beverages back at base, followed by Cofton’s annual fun dog show in aid of Children’s Hospice South West. Starting at 3:30pm, anyone is welcome to enter with their four-legged friend. This year, the show features an agility course and a host of categories including best junior dog handler, best dressed dog, and best in show. Face painting and circus skills classes will run alongside the event with Cofton’s loveable mascot, Digby the Dinosaur, making an appearance too. All money raised from entries in the dog show will go to charity.

In the evening, Dolly Parton tribute act, Dolly Jo, will be performing the country music legend’s greatest hits. Guests are encouraged to put on their finest country outfits, with prizes for the best dressed. The evening closes with a fabulous firework display.

On the Sunday, over 200 of America’s best-known classic cars and vehicles will be on display from 10am-4pm. Visitors can get up close and personal to the throaty purr of their engines and learn about their rich history.

America’s finest will compete in a series of trophy classes including the Director’s Cup, Best in Show, Best Custom Car / Hot Rod, and the People’s Choice; the winner of which takes home a huge award imported from the US.

In addition to great local food stalls and local ales in the main marquee, showgoers can look forward to Tractor Ted activities including Welly Wanging and an activity trail, bouncy castles and kids’ club workshops hosted by the Cofton entertainment team. The fun continues into the evening with live rock ‘n’ roll music from The Sugar Bullets.

Commenting on the show, event assistant organisers Keith and Denise Bloomfield, said: “We’re delighted to bring back the South West’s biggest and best Classic American Car Show to the South West’s ‘Holiday Park of the Year’, Cofton Holidays in beautiful Devon.

“We already have loads of American cars booked to attend, so fill up your tank as you will need all the energy you can muster to keep up with us! At just £5 per person for the entire weekend it’s great value, and if you arrive in an American vehicle, you’ll be given free entry for up to two people. With live music, quality food and drink and Cofton’s popular dog show, it’s set to be a fantastic weekend.”

Children’s Hospice South West Community Fundraiser, Dominic Scotting, said: “The sixth annual Classic American Car Show promises to be a superb event for all the family and we’re thrilled that Cofton Holidays has chosen to raise money for CHSW during the weekend. People will be able to enjoy the cars and the carnival atmosphere and also help CHSW to support more than 500 children with life-limiting conditions and their families across the South West.”

Tickets can be bought on the gate. Showgoers will also have access to Cofton’s main facilities including the heated indoor and outdoor pool, restaurant and pub. Visitors will also have access to miles of cycle paths and nature trails that take visitors through woodland, parkland and mature meadows to Dawlish Warren beach and nature reserve.
