Royal commentator, Jennie Bond, celebrates official opening of unique new homes development in Chagford

March 29, 2018 | News

Jennie Bond, well-known royal commentator and Devon resident, officially opened Stannary Gardens, a collection of luxury new homes for over-55s from Blue Cedar Homes on the edge of Chagford in the heart of Dartmoor National Park. At a special celebration held on Friday 16 March, Managing Director, Nick Hole, welcomed Jennie to unveil a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Guests and local residents enjoyed the opportunity to explore the showhomes and available plots at Stannary Gardens, walk the landscaped gardens, and chat to Jennie about her years as the BBC’s royal correspondent and her high profile television and journalism career spanning several decades.

Commenting at the official opening ceremony, Jennie said: “Chagford is an ancient and fascinating town with such a vibrant community and it’s my pleasure to be part of the celebrations at Stannary Gardens. The properties are simply stunning from the spacious rooms and fabulous kitchens, to the fact that an Estate Manager takes care of chores such as gardening and window cleaning, these apartments and houses are tailor-made for people ready to step into an active retirement. I can’t say that I’m not tempted!”

Blue Cedar Homes Managing Director, Nick Hole, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Jennie to officially open Stannary Gardens, which is a rather special development. The proportion of residents over the age of 55 within Dartmoor National Park is higher than the national average, but new homes for people wanting to right size to a more manageable property are in short supply. Stannary Gardens offers a choice of apartments and houses finished to the highest standards and capable of meeting changing needs in future in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.”

Stannary Gardens is a bespoke collection of nine three- and four-bedroom houses and six beautifully appointed two-bedroom apartments – a rare find in Dartmoor National Park. Created with right sizing in mind and finished to the highest standards, Stannary Gardens offers discerning home buyers the perfect opportunity to live later life in style. At the centre of the scheme nestles a thoughtfully landscaped communal garden with a summerhouse for all residents to enjoy. All outdoor spaces are cared for by Blue Cedar Homes’ visiting Estate Manager who also takes care of waste management, window cleaning and external redecoration.

Journalist and TV presenter, Jennie Bond, was the BBC’s royal correspondent for 14 years and reported on such high profile royal events as the 1992 Windsor Castle fire, the divorces of the Prince of Wales and Duke of York, and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. In more recent years, Jennie has raised funds for the Devon Air Ambulance Trust through her appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, and presented a wide range of programmes including the Chelsea Flower Show and Great British Menu.
