Devonshire Homes celebrates two site milestones across the West Country as part of its ambitious growth plans

May 10, 2023 | News

Independent West Country housebuilder Devonshire Homes has celebrated two major milestones within the last few weeks at new build home sites in Devon and Cornwall.

The multi award-winning housebuilder has completed on land located at Halwill Junction, close to Okehampton in Devon and the market town of Hatherleigh. Named Chilla Junction, the 1.9 hectare site will see 32 new homes built, nine of which will be affordable.

Chilla Junction will offer a mix of one, two, three, four and five bedroom homes which will include apartments, bungalows and houses, some of which will be delivered under Devonshire Homes’ affordable homes contribution. Properties have  been carefully designed to complement the local environment so that homes blend into the village. Nestled in the Devon countryside, properties will benefit from easy access to the A30 and A386.

Construction on these new build homes will commence in June 2023 with the first occupations expected in spring 2024. Devonshire Homes will also contribute to the local community under the S106 agreement.

This will include a £13,183 NHS contribution towards the provision of primary care at Blake House Surgery and Holsworthy Medical Centre; £32,397 towards off-site sports in Halwill Junction; £13,192 towards play space in Halwill Junction and £20,839 towards Secondary education transport to Holsworthy Community College.

Devonshire Homes has also expanded its portfolio in Cornwall as the housebuilder has exchanged contracts for the acquisition of land in Mabe Burnthouse, West Cornwall.

Overlooking the historic market town of Penryn, the 3.7 acre site will bring 30 much-needed new build homes to the area. The land already has a reserved matters planning consent to construct two, three and four bedroom detached houses and bungalows.

The development will be known as Hornblower Heights and construction is anticipated to commence this summer.

Angus Cook, Managing Director at Devonshire Homes, commented: “It’s been a busy first quarter for us with significant progress being made on several acquisitions across the West Country. We’re pleased to announce that we have completed on land near Okehampton and have exchanged contracts on land in Mabe Burnthouse, adding to Devonshire Homes’ rapidly expanding portfolio.

“Our mission is to bring high-quality new homes to people, not just in Devon, but across Cornwall and Somerset too. As an independent West Country housebuilder, we can react rapidly when land opportunities arise. We look forward to delivering more new homes in 2023 and beyond.”

Creating high-quality homes across the South West since 1992, Devonshire Homes’ current expansion strategy is to double turnover and deliver 400 homes per annum by 2026.

The Devonshire Homes team has decades of experience in building new communities across the West Country with current developments including: The Grange, Bideford; Applegate Park, Kingsbridge; Longston Cross, Bovey Tracey; Sun Houses, Yelland; Gwallon Keas, St. Austell and Five Lanes Close, Altarnun.
