Award-winning holiday park goes topsy-turvy for Comic Relief

March 22, 2019 | News

Multi award-winning holiday park Cofton Holidays has raised vital funds for a global charity by encouraging its staff to try something new.

As part of the Cofton Comic Relief Job Swap, staff at the South Devon holiday park gained experience in different areas of the family business, all in aid of Comic Relief. Thanks to the support of Cofton’s guests, the team raised £200 for Comic Relief, a well-known charity that strives to create a just world free from poverty.

Kicking off the day, Grounds Manager Scott swapped his ride-along mower for a cash register, taking the place of Gerry as Cofton’s Shop Manager. Scott tried his hand at serving customers and taking deliveries whilst Gerry got to work clearing the many leaves across the 80-acre site.

Over at Ashburn Springs Spa and Leisure, Fitness Manager Ian Baker swapped roles with Guest Services Manager James. Whilst James was put through his paces by participating in Cofton’s wide variety of fitness classes, Ian threw himself into ensuring that Cofton’s valued guests were having a memorable holiday. Testing his caravan towing skills and patrolling the holiday park, Ian was very much out of his fitness comfort zone.

Guests visiting Cofton can enjoy the holiday park’s five coarse fishing lakes, home to the prestigious Cofton Cup competitions. Regular fishing enthusiasts will often spot Fishing Manager Luke overseeing the lakes but for one day only, Reception Manager Ewelina could be seen carrying out his duties. Whilst Ewelina fed the fish, maintained the lakes and worked in the tackle shop, Luke worked in reception, greeting guests and taking bookings.

Despite being one of Cofton’s newest recruits, Head of Housekeeping Paula wasn’t afraid to get her hands coated in icing sugar in the kitchen. Paula made a batch of delicious Comic Relief cookies which were sold to diners with all proceeds going to Comic Relief. To round off a busy day of job swapping, the bar and restaurant team joined Cofton mascot Digby and the entertainments team on the dancefloor to learn the Digby Dance.

Helen Scott, Director of Cofton Holidays, commented:

“We’re delighted to announce that we’ve raised £200 this year for Comic Relief. The team were all great sports and really threw themselves into their new job roles. It was great fun to see everyone attempt a new skill and it was a good opportunity for our staff to learn about different areas of the business.”

The funds raised from the Cofton Comic Relief Job Swap have been donated to Comic Relief, a charity that gives grants to thousands of charities who are working to help people living in poverty both in the UK and abroad.

Based near the pretty coastline of Dawlish Warren, Cofton Holidays has recently been awarded Gold in the Holiday Park and Village of the Year category at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2018/19.
