October 21, 2016 | News

Dartmouth’s official tourism website www.discoverdartmouth.com is re-launching this week following a radical redesign to create a sleek new, image led site designed to inspire and capture the imagination of the browsing public, wherever they are in the world.

Developed by the experienced marketing team at Visit South Devon, the fresh new site, which features new images from Dartmouth Photographs ’ Martin Thomas, is fully responsive, enabling the site to be browsed on the move via mobiles and tablets as well as at home or in the office.

Using the latest destination marketing techniques to inspire and assist travelers, the new website takes visitors on a journey of discovery, enticing them to explore the rich variety of things to do in and around Dartmouth.

Among the host of new functions is the introduction of an ‘Inspire me’ section on the homepage, which has been crafted to draw the attention of the visitor to promotional campaigns that capture the imagination.  Other features include a dedicated new shopping section, built to promote Dartmouth’s range of independent and fashion shops, encouraging uplift in day visitors to the town.

The site even hosts a brand new blog, which will be used to enhance key tourism campaigns and events throughout the year, driving interest and traffic to the site.  In addition to blogs developed by the team at Visit South Devon, guest bloggers will be given the opportunity to write about Dartmouth and the surrounding area.  Guest writers will range from travel journalists through to local tourism businesses with unique and intriguing insights into life in and around Dartmouth.

Through a combination of these new features, extensive new content and enhanced SEO, Visit South Devon aims to not only grow visitor numbers to the site, but to enhance discoverdartmouth.com’s position as the leading site for Dartmouth-based tourism searches.

Launched in good time for the October half term the new-look www.discoverdartmouth.com will instantly help visitors on the move, meaning that day trippers and holiday makers staying locally can quickly and easily see what’s on, where and when.  Blending area information with ideas for great places to stay, eat, drink and relax, Visit South Devon hopes to see an immediate uplift in site use.

Created in consultation with local advertisers, the new site includes improved listings for local businesses featuring detailed descriptions, multiple images, gradings, awards, facilities, maps and location information.  The site also links to Dartmouth’s official social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, driving traffic to both the site and to advertising businesses.

Stuart Longrigg, Chairman of Visit South Devon, said: “We’re looking forward to the launch of the new-look website as we’re confident that it will make a positive difference to businesses advertising on the site and to footfall in Dartmouth, generating increased day visits, overnight stays, business trips and holidays.

“Combined with our active and engaging social media work, marketing and PR, we aim to emulate the success that has been achieved with the Visit South Devon site, which saw a growth of 137% in website traffic over the past 3 years. It may take a while to achieve this, but we have every confidence that, with the support of local advertising businesses, we can achieve this.”

Dartmoutheverytime.com was run by Visit South Devon, a not for profit organisation that uses money raised from adverts taken by tourist attractions, activity based businesses, accommodation and hospitality providers to fund the marketing and promotion of Dartmouth to tourists and day visitors. 10% of all profits made from www.discoverdartmouth.com will go back to the running of the town’s information centre.

Last year www.visitsouthdevon.co.uk saw a rise in traffic to its site by in excess of 20% bringing over 810,000 visits to the official Visit South Devon website. In 2015 250,000 visitors came to www.discoverdartmouth.com.
