Valeport provides vital support to Totnes Caring
A local charity which supports vulnerable older people to enable them to live in their own homes, remaining independent and free from isolation has received a very welcome boost from a local company. Valeport, the Totnes-based manufacturer of underwater measuring equipment has donated £1000 to support Totnes Caring through the COVID-19 crisis.
During the pandemic, Totnes Caring has been very busy helping over 500 vulnerable clients and carers stay safe and well, providing a whole range of practical and emotional support, including shopping, prescription, lunch deliveries, transport to health appointments, home visits, telephone befriending, carers’ and hospital discharge support. The charities home help service has continued to provide a lifeline to many.
Like many charities, COVID-19 has presented Totnes Caring with significant challenges. Mary Popham from Totnes Caring commented: “With the support of our 120 volunteers we have been working exceptionally hard to meet the considerable demands the pandemic placed upon us.
We have adapted many of our services in response to the pandemic and look forward to a time when we can safely invite our clients back to our activities such as our lunch clubs, art groups and memory cafes.”
Mary continued: “Times are particularly tough for charities right now and like other charities, many of our regular fundraising activities have been curbed by the pandemic which is why it is wonderful to get this support from a great local company. Valeport’s donation really helps and will enable us to carry on delivering a variety of services to in those in need in Totnes and the surrounding area.”
Valeport employes over 90 people at its riverside premises in Totnes and was keen to support the local charity during these challenging times, Phill Harvey Valeport Finance Director commented: “Local charities and organisations such as Totnes Caring have been critical in supporting those hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and we are proud to play a small role in helping make things a little better for those in need.”
