Exeter communications agency lifts the lid on Scope 3 emissions for the first time in latest Impact Report
As part of its ongoing commitment to reducing environmental impact, Exeter based communications agency, Absolute PR and Marketing, has announced it has measured its Scope 3 emissions for the first time as it continues its drive to become carbon neutral.
The announcement comes after the B Corp accredited agency published its third Environmental and Social Impact Report which details the agency’s achievements from April 2024 to March 2025 in its quest to practice better business.
The report also highlights that for the third year running, Absolute has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 emissions by a further 17.43% (29% reduction since the agency started measuring), maintaining its position as a business with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the South West.
Absolute’s strategy is centred around five of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and progress is shared annually with employees, clients and stakeholders.
To build on previous years, Absolute has measured its Scope 3 emissions for the first time with the intention of becoming carbon neutral by year end 2025/26. As of March 2025, Absolute’s Scope 3 emissions measure 5,838kg, providing the company with a benchmark for improvement to be reported on in next year’s report.
Rachael Whitson, Managing Director at Absolute PR and Marketing, commented: “We’re pleased to announce the release of our third annual Environmental and Social Impact Report where we have measured our Scope 3 emissions for the first time.
“As a business guided by purpose, we leaned deeper into responsibility this year, once again reducing our environmental footprint and investing in the well-being of our team and communities. We believe that business should be a force for good, and that belief continues to guide the decisions we make.
“It’s not just about what we have achieved though. Our report allows us to be transparent about our goals, ensuring that we continue to build something better. We’re forever evolving and there’s always something more that we can be doing so that is why we have measured our Scope 3 emissions. By taking this measurement, it has allowed us to understand how we can reduce our carbon footprint further. Our findings have uncovered that the majority of our Scope 3 emissions comes from commuting. As our office is based in the countryside, this isn’t a surprise, but it has allowed us to identify where the emissions lie and now we can work on reducing them.
“Our next step is to look at carbon offsetting schemes to achieve our goal of becoming carbon neutral by year end 2025/26. As a B Corp-certified business, we remain committed to ensuring that our actions create a positive impact on both people and planet.”
In addition to measuring Scope 3 emissions, the report highlights how Absolute’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions have been reduced in the past year by 17.43%* and now measure just 632.55kg. Charity work includes £15,154 work of charitable activities, 56kg donated to Exeter Foodbank, 156 hours spent volunteering, and holding five voluntary positions including four charity trusteeships. As well as the Foodbank, local charities that have benefitted from Absolute’s activities include St Petrock’s; Dawlish Against Plastic; Westcountry Rivers Trust and The Incorporation of Weavers, Fullers and Shearmen and Tuckers Hall, Exeter.
Based on the outskirts of Exeter, Absolute PR and Marketing has been helping brands with purpose communicate their messaging for 25 years, building reputations, inspiring audiences and creating a positive impact for community, cause and climate. In 2023, Absolute became an Employee Ownership Trust, creating a structure that enables employees to take a more active role in decision-making and benefit from the agency’s success.
