Devonshire Homes raises £5,000 for charity at popular Golf Day
West Country house builder Devonshire Homes has raised an incredible £5,000 for its 2021 charity partner, William Wates Memorial Trust.
Devonshire Homes welcomed guests from across the housing and construction sector to its biennial Charity Golf Day at Dainton Park Golf Club in Newton Abbot. Teams of four enjoyed a day on the green which included 18-holes and a variety of competitions such as the longest drive, challenge the Pro and nearest to the pin. The team representing electrical contractor Clarkson Evans came out on top, winning the prestigious Devonshire Homes Charity Golf Day Trophy.
The day was followed by an auction and raffle which raised even more funds for William Wates Memorial Trust, a charity that supports projects which help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential and stay away from a life of crime and violence.
Golfers didn’t disappoint during the auction with the highest bid being made at £450. Prizes included a mountain bike, donated by the charity, which has been refurbished by an 18-year-old who has been unable to attend education for over four years. As part of a project that the Trust supports, the young man has grown in confidence during the refurbishment and has begun a college course this year. Other items up for grabs were a Manchester United shirt signed by Eric Cantona, Crystal Palace football tickets and a private helicopter flight to Jersey, Guernsey or France with lunch included.
Rick Wates, William Wates Memorial Trust Trustee, commented: “We are incredibly thankful to Devonshire Homes for hosting such a fantastic event that raised significant funds for William Wates Memorial Trust. It was great to see so many people from the South West’s housing and construction industry engaged in what we do at the Trust and more than willing to get behind the auction and raffle which raised vital funds for the projects we support.”
Jane Pearce, Joint Acting Managing Director at Devonshire Homes, commented: “I’m delighted that our 2021 Charity Golf Day was a huge success. We were overwhelmed with just how many people wanted to participate and show their support. Not only were we raising money for such a worthy cause, but golfers were delighted to actually have a physical event to attend after a year full of lockdowns!”
Jane continued: “Devonshire Homes’ Charity Golf Day is a biennial event which will continue to raise funds for fantastic local charities. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who attended and supported our Charity Golf Day this year and we hope to see them again in 2023 for another round.”
Devonshire Homes has raised funds throughout the year for William Wates Memorial Trust by donating £50 to the charity for every open-market sale. The local independent housebuilder has so far donated £3,900 to the Trust through open-market sales which have taken place in 2021.
