Developer working to regenerate former Truro Cornwall Council Office Campus invites community to drop-in session

Cornish developer Treveth, which is committed to creating thriving, sustainable communities for local people through the provision of high-quality affordable homes – as well as work and commercial spaces – has announced that it will be working on plans to regenerate the former Cornwall Council Office Campus on Treyew Road, Truro.

Members of the local community are invited to find out more about Treveth and how the project will benefit Truro at an informal drop-in session taking place on Tuesday 18th June, 1.30pm to 6.30pm, at Truro Community Fire Station, Station Road, Truro, TR1 3HA.

Since its launch in 2019, Treveth has been building high-quality new build homes, sustainable communities, and commercial developments in partnership with Cornwall Council to directly benefit people who live and work in Cornwall.

The Treyew Road scheme, funded by Treveth, will see the developer provide much-needed homes for local people. This will include 1, 2, 3 and 4-bed homes, delivering a range of tenures, including open market rent, affordable rent, and shared ownership for those who live, work or have family connections in the immediate vicinity of Truro.

Playing its part in shaping Cornwall’s communities and places to positively benefit local people living and working in Cornwall, the Treyew Road regeneration will become the latest scheme to be brought forward by the B Corp accredited Cornish developer.

This follows on from other Treveth schemes in Truro, which include The Railway Tavern on Station Road – a mixed-use scheme which intends to create 40-50 student beds in different accommodation types, and 400sqm of commercial space; currently going through planning and Pydar Street, for which Treveth is acting as development manager for the proposed transformation of this part of Truro into a vibrant new neighbourhood and destination.

Designs for the Treyew Road regeneration scheme are currently evolving and will be shaped by feedback from community events held over the coming months, prior to the submission of a planning application for the site.

Emma Rodgers, Senior Development Manager at Treveth, commented: “The site at the former Cornwall Council Office Campus on Treyew Road, covers a total of 2.3ha. This will be used to construct up to 130 new homes, split into four phases; the first of which will consist of 50 homes ranging from 1-bed to 4-bed homes. These homes will be prioritised for people with local connections, or those who are working in the local area, discouraging second home ownership.

“The drop-in session is designed as an opportunity to share information, and for locals to meet the team behind the regeneration. We have found that this approach is key to giving us a deeper understanding about local community needs. This helps us to shape future plans and will enable us to take on board views that can be incorporated into the regeneration of the former Cornwall Council Office Campus.”

The informal drop-in on 18th June will be the first of several community and stakeholder events prior to the submission of the planning application for the Treyew Road site later this year.

Dates for public consultation events about the planning application, where local residents can receive more information and have a say about the regeneration of the area, will be announced later in the year.

Founded by Cornwall Council in 2019, Treveth now manages 135 properties across 6 developments and 48 units across 10 commercial sites.

Treveth was established to improve the quality of rented accommodation and to increase the availability of homes across the rental, shared ownership and private rental sectors for those who live, work in, or have family connections in the immediate vicinity of its sites. Treveth currently has over 286 homes in build for local residents in Tolgus, Liskeard, Newquay, and Bodmin.

Treveth has successfully managed and sold properties transferred from Cornwall Council, creating thriving communities which include Heathlands View, Bodmin; The Coppers, Tolvaddon and Tregover, Newquay.

The site at Treyew Road was acquired in April 2023 from Cornwall Council, and was exchanged subject to planning being secured on Phase 1 of the regeneration; with options on phases two, three, and four, that will bring the total number of homes on site up to around 130 homes.
