The Challenge
To build support for a new approach that has the potential to transform landfill sites around the world into one of the most climate-friendly methods of waste treatment, generating heat, energy and affordable fruit and vegetables for local communities year-round.
Our Solution
Working with Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd, we launched the vision for this new technology – the Super-Midden – at a series of community engagement public consultations in Royal Wootton Bassett. Using press releases, advertising, door-drops, social posts, face-to face events, website content and an animated film, we explained how Sustain Wiltshire’s Super-Midden will convert landfill methane into electricity, heat and CO2, which will be used to produce low-cost fruit and vegetables year-round in positively pressured greenhouses for the local community. These greenhouses enhance photosynthesis so that food can be produced more affordably and with less environmental impact than the supermarkets.
What We Achieved
Widespread local and stakeholder support for the Sustain Wiltshire’s Super-Midden with no public opposition to planning. Over 51 pieces of regional and national coverage including a feature-length interview on the popular sustainability podcast Lean into Clean. Social reach of over 9,000 for the consultation, with over 500 click-throughs. 28 Blogs. Sell-out conference and hugely positive delegate feedback, which was used to feed into the generation of a ‘Greenprint for a Sustainable, Independent Britain’, due to be launched at the Second Sustain Britain Conference in September 2025.
