The Challenge
To raise the Exe Sailability Project’s profile in the local community, social media, regional and trade media, using The King’s Award for Voluntary Service presentation as a news hook.
Our Solution
The Exe Sailing Club approached Absolute PR and Marketing in the summer of 2025 after its Sailability project was awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service. The Club identified this as a pivotal opportunity to raise the profile of Sailability within the local community and on social media, but needed professional PR and marketing support. Absolute agreed to provide pro-bono support services to the Club and Sailability.
Absolute established a press office for Sailability to promote and manage media enquiries for the King’s Award presentation event they were organising. Absolute managed invites to key journalists, liaised with reporters from print, online and broadcast media to agree coverage and interview opportunities and drafted and distributed a press release to secure coverage across regional and trade media.
In addition to providing a press office service, Absolute also developed a social media strategy for the Sailability team to use now and in the future. The document provided useful hints, tips and advice to ensure Sailability harnesses the potential of their existing audience, and continue to grow their social media following well into the future.
What We Achieved
Through a carefully crafted media outreach programme, we achieved media coverage for the Exe Sailability Project spanning regional and trade titles with a total circulation of over 185m. Titles included: DevonLive; Exmouth Journal; Exeter Today; Yahoo News; All at Sea; Yachting Monthly; Sail World; Yachts and Yachting and Sail World Cruising. Results have increased awareness for the Project, with our client confirming they have received several new enquiries from individuals looking to get out onto the water.
Our detailed social media strategy has helped the team level up Sailaibility’s digital presence, giving them the tools to drive engagement, increase their following and raise awareness of the support Sailability can provide to disadvantaged people.
