Moor Otters Arts Trail returns to Dartmoor

May 20, 2021 | News, Sustainability

This summer sees the return of the Moor Otters Arts Trail to Dartmoor National Park and we’re delighted to announce that Absolute PR and Marketing will once again be sponsoring the Trail.

Moor Otters Arts Trail officially starts on 28 May. Ahead of the launch day and in advance of further lockdown restrictions being eased from 17 May, Dartmoor National Park has revealed where people can find the 81 stunning otters and cub sculptures – designed and decorated by artists, local talent and organisations – so people can plan their otter spotting.

With Moor Otters across the National Park and further afield, otter spotters might want to organise their sculpture sightings around other activities like visiting a tourist attraction or grabbing a bite to eat somewhere.

Lots of sculptures are hosted by organisations which remain subject to Covid-19 restrictions so otter spotters will need to check opening times, whether they need to book in advance and what other facilities are nearby.

To help people, Dartmoor National Park has published its Moor Otters Arts Trail map. Visit www.dartmoor.gov.uk/enjoy-dartmoor/moor-otters/moor-otters-trails

The interactive map shows all five Moor Otters Arts Trails alongside the name of the otter, links to the host organisation and sculpture sponsor.

Dartmoor National Park’s Head of Communications and Fundraising Sam Hill said:

“With Moor Otters Arts Trail officially launching on 28 May, now is the perfect time for people to start planning their Moor Otters journey. We’ve had people ask if they can see a map so they can start planning their visit and we’re really happy to help. As we’re still easing out of lockdown restrictions, many host businesses have COVID-secure arrangements in place so people will need to plan their visit in advance.

“We’re committed to supporting Dartmoor’s economy while ensuring people ‘otter spot’ safely. The map gives people information, so they know before they go. We’d encourage everyone to plan ahead, check information before they travel and to follow all government guidance when they visit so everyone stays safe and has a great time.

“We’re hope people enjoy planning their otter spotting ahead of the trail going live on May 28!”

Moor Otters Arts Trail aims to raise £60,000 for Donate for Dartmoor, the fund-raising pot of money for conservation projects that keep the landscape special now and in the future.

Anyone visiting the National Park are encouraged to ‘leave no trace, give nature space’. This means leaving Dartmoor as they found it: take all litter home, keep dogs on leads, leave gateways free from vehicles and avoid busy areas at peak times.

By following these simple compassionate steps, it ensures there’s room for everyone to share the National Park’s habitats, wildlife and cultural heritage. When Moor Otters Arts Trail goes live on May 28, maps will also be available from National Park Visitor Centres at Haytor, Postbridge and Princetown.
