Really Big Quiz raises more funds for charity

Barnstaple’s sixth annual Really Big Quiz, hosted by Chartered Accounts Simpkins Edwards, raised £2,555 for the Mayor’s chosen charities.
Held at The Barnstaple Hotel on Wednesday 18 November, the event invited businesses from across North Devon to compete in a series of challenging pub quiz-style rounds to find the region’s brainiest business. Guests were also encouraged to dig deep during the raffle and auction, compered by James Morrish of Kivells, who also drafted in more donations via an entertaining game of heads or tails.
Victorious on the night was the team of Simply Elgar, which was presented with a trophy and Champagne for its efforts. In second and third place were Sounds Sorted from Sounds Sorted Productions and Surf Bay Minions from Surf Bay Leisure.
The combined monies from the entry fees, heads and tails game, raffle and auction have been donated to the Mayor, Councillor Valerie Elkin, to split between her chosen charities, which are: North and West Devon Motor Neurone Disease Support, Families in Grief, The Barnstaple Leg club and Veterans Peer Support.
“This event continues to flourish, and more importantly, to raise additional money for charity,” said Jilly Watson, partner at Simpkins Edwards. “We’re delighted to see so many returnees as well as new faces this year and we look forward to beating our fundraising total when we see everyone next year. Here’s to 2016!”
“Thank you seems such a very small word to be saying, but I am indebted to Simpkins Edwards for organising the evening, culminating in the tremendous amount raised for my mayoral charities.  My heartfelt thanks also goes to all the generous people who took part in the Quiz and supported the event,” said Councillor Mrs Val Elkins, Mayor.
